Van Eyck's The Arnolfini Marriage:

One of the most popular pages in my notes is Van Eyck's The Arnolfini Marriage. When I can get good images I have been adding classical paintings with rugs in them to my notes. Jan Van Eyck was using a projected image from which to trace his work. That being the case then there is a high probability that this was a virtually exact rendering of a contemporary carpet on the floor.
